Hammockers do it better! I, and many others agree, that hammocking is a fantastic way to camp. The hammock is portable, versatile (try finding a place to put your tent in the bayou), and badass. Here we are, swinging in the trees near the top of Mt. Mitchell. Glorious!
Sometimes I don't know what is more impressive - the photographs of the vistas or the food. A perk of biking thousands of miles is getting to eat thousands of calories - here is breakfast, stew and bacon.
I rode up to the top of Mt. Mitchell to see what the east looked like from its highest point. Pea Soup!
Thankfully, I met this beautiful, vivacious woman to pass the time with. We talked about the power of cycling. She was on a regular ride that she did to raise money for children with cancer.
...in the meantime, the clouds moved on and I started to see the densely forested mountains appear.
I haven't had the chance to deserve another one of these in my sedentary life. What's for lunch? a bacon (cooked the night before, preserved in a ziploc, eaten frequently) and peanut butter sandwich...
As the day came to a close I saw a small apple orchard. They were unfortunately closed but I can't lie, I climbed down the hill to grab a fruit. Even though it tasted like what they call a "deer apple" I pretended it was fresh and juicy!
